The Washington Inn building is an 1840s plantation home that has been converted into one of the most elegant dining spots in Cape May. It is really the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two, a special banquet event or just dining with friends or family. The Craig family are truly the hosts and when you dine here, you sense their committment to excellence in all restaurant aspects.
The cuisine is creative American with a Mediterrean influence. Their menu includes "house favorites" and daily "specials" which take advantage of the freshest produce and seafood available. The menu is always new and exciting but you can find your favorites available. "House wines" are available by the glass or the bottle.
The Washington Inn has an elaborate and well stocked wine cellar that was hand built by the Craig family and it houses more than 9,000 bottles. It has been voted the best of the shore for its contents. When you go to the Washington Inn for dinner, ask to see the wine cellar, a short tour is a real experience.
If you are planning a wedding, a reunion, a reception, rehearsal dinner or special event, The Washington Inn staff can guide you in creating a wonderful event. They also provide catering services for events outside of the restaurant. Another feature of The Washington Inn is their cookbook. Not only does it have recipes for their more famous dishes, but it has artwork by a local artist, Alice Steer Wilson.
Reservations are recommended and there is valet parking which is a real plus in the heart of Cape May.
Menu highlights include: Appetizers; Roasted Red Peppers with fontina and chevre cheese, Coquille on Horseback which is seascallops wrapped with bacon with a drizzle of horseradish cream. Signature entrees include Sesame-Crusted Tuna, Kansas Steak, Veal Oscar, Jewel of Provence which is a saute of shrimp and scallops tossed with fresh tomatoes, garlic and white wine. Their in-house pastry chef does an excellent job with Chocolate Mousse Tower and Grand Marnier Creme Brulee.
